High Energy Bulbs Banned By The EU

Traditional high energy lamps (light bulbs) are to be banned by all EU member states, from January 2010, EU energy ministers have agreed.

Incandescent lamps, the traditional type with filaments, are to be replaced with low energy fluorescent lamps.

Although low energy lamps are currently more expensive to buy Lamps & Lighting Ltd’s UK Representative, Leigh Hudson, said: “The benefit is two-fold; energy costs are increasing and so replacing high energy lamps with low energy equivalents helps keep energy costs down.  Secondly, low energy lamps last much longer than their high energy cousins, meaning a reduction in manufacturing and waste.  This promotes reduced greenhouse gases because carbon dioxide (CO²) is produced in generating the electricity which powers the lamp.”

This major change, affecting all of the EU's 500 million citizens, was first ordered at a EU summit in 2007 as part of a policy to help tackle global warming.

Lamps & Lighting Ltd can help with your lamp replacement strategy and replacement deals are in place to make the switch-over as inexpensive as possible.  With their comprehensive range of low energy lamps you should not need to replace any luminaires as direct replacements are available for most incandescent lamps.
