A recent project for Lamps & Lighting involved in the refurbishment of Stockport's Town Hall Ballroom.

The Ballroom, built in 1908, is a beautifully ornate piece of architecture, comprising of detailed ceilings and stained glass windows. The lighting is very specific and is dominated by six huge chandeliers each 3m high and suspended by 3m of chain.

The project called for the careful maintenance and refurbishing of the six intricate bronze chandeliers. Scaffolding had to be erected in the twelve metre high ballroom, and the chandeliers lowered by winch. Specialist packaging was manufactured to transport the chandeliers on their delicate journey. Each one of the priceless chandeliers had to be dismantled and painstakingly cleaned and lacquered. The components of which were updated with high frequency dimmable state of the art control gear and new glass diffusers. To compliment these fittings 6 wall lights were also to be refurbished, and remounted.

The old spotlights were replaced with a more up to date, effective, metal halide system. The old spot system had a lamp life of 250hours whilst the new cheaper to run high efficiency fittings run for 1200 hours. These were to highlight features such as the stage, disco and dance globe.  A state of the art programmable 5 setting dimming system was also introduced. The project had a tight deadline and all work was completed in under five weeks. The Town Hall caters for functions such as civic events, weddings and dances.
